Expert Partners
Expert partners are NGOs, CBOs and local charities working towards any one of the Millennium Development Goals. Expert Partner needs form the backbone of The Great Generation’s work, and lie at the heart of the organisation’s partnership based approach. They also provide essential knowledge and insight into the communities that The Great Generation works with, ensuring volunteers are prepared and supported in the lead up to and for the duration of their project.
The Great Generation’s Expert Partners are supported in translating their community and organisational needs into a 3 – 5 year partnership vision. All volunteer projects deliver upon this vision, ensuring that volunteer’s time and resources go towards real community and organisational needs. The Great Generation runs two types of volunteer projects with Expert Partners: Community-based projects and Capacity Building projects. Read more about these two different types of projects on our volunteer programme page.
What benefits does an Expert Partnership bring?
- Strategic planning - a first stage needs assessment exercise is conducted with potential partners, in order to define strategic objectives of:
1) The organisation and 2) a partnership with The Great Generation
- Long term input and sustainability - a 3 – 5 year partnership vision is defined by both sides and an MOU is signed
- General and specialist volunteer support - a series of 1 – 2 week volunteer projects are delivered which align with strategic goals of the Expert Partner
- Increased organisational and community capacity – all projects seek to answer pre defined organisational and community needs, in order to increase effectiveness and capacity to deliver upon the Millennium Development Goals
What are the stages of developing an Expert Partnership:
1. Organisation wide needs assessment and engagement of Expert Partner Board members and senior leaders
2. Agreeing a partnership framework which tackles key organisational issues and supports community work
3. Agreeing a desired project schedule in alignment with partnership framework
4. Signing a partnership agreement and providing associated documentation
5. Recruiting volunteers and commencing work
