Making a difference
The Great Generation long-term vision is that each of our volunteers will remain connected with communities in developing countries and use their experience to promote more effective charitable giving. Read on to find how The Great Generation programmes enable YOU to put YOUR DONATION TO ACTION and create a lasting legacy through volunteering.
Your donation will ...
Buy goods and services from local people
A major part of the money raised by each volunteer is invested in the communities where our projects are placed/operate. For example, we usually place volunteers in locally-run guesthouses, buy lunches from local families or food stalls, and employ a local driver to take the team to and from the project site. This is of a great value to the local people and supports ongoing community development.
Support investment into local infrastructure
We work alongside local people and our project partners to identify and deliver facilities that will bring ongoing benefits to the wider community. Small infrastructure grants provide urgently needed items such as water tanks, sanitation, playgrounds or computer equipment. Help to create livelihoods through microfinance
The Great Generation is committed to supporting long-term change and enabling people affected by poverty or disaster to help themselves. One way we make this happen is by providing people with a small loan so that they can acquire the assets, training and resources they need to get a job or start a business, such as a sewing co-operative or carpentry apprenticeships. Volunteers work with local people identifying micro enterprise opportunities and use a portion of their fundraising to get one or more of these ventures off the ground. Support communities through the Supply Chain
The Great Generation Supply Chain works like an “online community shop” and enables you to donate items directly to the communities where our volunteers have worked. All the ‘goods’ on offer have been selected by volunteers who have been on-the-ground and talked to local people about the problems they face on a day-to-day basis. Your money goes directly to our Expert Partners in the community who then source all the items you have chosen locally. Want to find out more about The Supply Chain? Click here.
