Our volunteers have fundraised in a whole range of ways including sponsored Non-Stop Dancing, Karaoke, Brussel Sprout Eating Contests, Talent Contests, Quiz and Curry Nights, Taking over a Pub for a Quiz Night etc.
Here are a range of other do-it-yourself fundraising ideas which come in a whole range of sizes and shapes. Hopefully you can adapt some of them to have fun and raise funds for your project.
If you have some fundraising ideas that have worked for you send us an email volunteer@thegreatgeneration and we’ll make sure to post it on our website.
•Night Golf Tournament: Add a special twist to a golf tournament, and hold a night golf outing. Instead of playing golf during the day, participants will play in the evening. To setup a night golf outing you use special glow golf balls that use glow sticks to illuminate them, and use various different glow sticks to outline certain holes you wish to play. There’s nothing more exciting than watching glowing golf balls flying through the air at night, unbelievable sight.
•Students pay £1 on a designated day and get to wear their pajamas to school. It's a very easy fundraising idea. All you need is someone to go to the classrooms and collect the money. Even the teachers might participate! Consider having a contest for the ugliest, weirdest, etc. pajamas.
•A fundraising plane pull can generate plenty of good publicity and raise lots of money for your project.
•Host a Polar Bear (or similar) plunge into frigid winter water. The plunge is open to anyone willing to “bear” the elements for a good cause. The object is simple. Raise money then plunge into the cold water!
•Stand-up comedy for 24 hours straight! Overcome your inhibitions and spend a day singing songs from Les Miserables in London's crowded Covent Garden.
•You may have heard of "Buy Nothing Day". Challenge yourself to a "Buy Nothing Week” - this means no coffee stops, midnight visits to the grocery store or eating out of any kind.. and that's just food!
•Wear your swim cap and goggles to work for the day - then swim the English Channel!
•Dare to adopt a vegan lifestyle for an entire week!
•Make a bold statement in raising awareness. To get your message across without even opening your mouth - dare to remain silent for 24 hours.
•If you’re a man wear hot pink sweat pants and a hot pink hoodie to work for 5 hilarious and memorable days. Post photos of your humiliation on his facebook page.
•Dare yourself to give up television for one month and read ten books instead.
•Dare your entire household to park their car for a week and instead rely exclusively on feet, bikes and, if absolutely necessary, public transport to get around.
•Write and perform a stand up comedy routine at a comedy venue… despite your paralyzing fear of audiences!
