School feeding programme in Jordan

Seeking 6-12 volunteers to help with a feeding programme to build toward a Jordan ‘free from hunger’ by 2015....

This is a unique volunteering project, spending two weeks in Jordan suppoting our Expert Partner in their initiative of combating the problem of hunger faced by up to 780,000 people across the country.

The main tasks will be hard work and simply just knuckling down and being part of a team!

You will be involved in all sorts of rewarding, inter-active tasks that support the food programmes:
- in-house washing up,
- food delivery through-out the town,
- support activities.

Supported by The Great Generation staff and our expert partner, volunteers will also look at ways to support people into livelihood opportunities through microfinance to further break the cycle of poverty.

Who should take part in this project?

This is an open project and we are looking for people with the following attributes: Physical fitness, Willingness to help, team players!

Information about taking part in this project

If you are interested in taking part in this project you will need to fill in a volunteer registration form and provide two references.

To confirm an initial offer of a place on the project you will need to transfer a £120 non-refundable donation. Volunteers are asked to fundraise a set amount of money that covers your flights, food, local transport and accommodation. Most of the services we use on the project, such as accommodation, food and transport, are sourced from the community you will be working in to help stimulate the local economy.

The fundraising also goes towards the community in two ways. One part helps to set up a microfinance fund in the community, which is used to help local people create livelihoods for themselves. The second part is provided as an infrastructure grant to the community.

Briefings
Volunteers must attend two half-day briefings. It is important that you attend both briefings as we use this time to do planning for the project as well as getting you prepared for the community you will be volunteering in for the two weeks.
