projects in action button Building Awareness Workshops in Uganda Kampala, Uganda16th - 27th August 2010 (2 weeks)

About this Project

In 2010 The Great Generation will take a group of students to volunteer in Uganda - alongside our Expert Partner, Youth Alive, to help develop and deliver a Building Awareness workshop for young people at risk of contracting HIV Aids

Youth Alive's core goal is to help children, adoloscents and young adults lead a healthy life free of HIV/AIDS so as to see out or fullfil their future dreams and ambitions through committing to healthy and proactive life styles. The project will enable the volunteers to see their own skills utilised for the benefit of this community-based organisation.

Who should take part in this project?
If you are a student or staff member of the selected school you may sign up to take part in this project.

Information about taking part in this project
To take part in this project we need students and staff to fill in a volunteer registration form. To confirm a place on the project you will need to transfer a £100 non-refundable donation. Volunteers are asked to fundraise a set amount of money that covers your flights, food, local transport and accommodation. Most of the services we use on the project, such as accommodation, food and transport, are sourced from the community you will be working in to help stimulate the local economy.

The fundraising also goes towards the community in two ways. One part helps to set up a microfinance fund in the community, which is used to help local people create livelihoods for themselves. The second part is provided as an infrastructure grant to the community.

Briefings
Volunteers must attend two half-day briefings. It is important that you attend both briefings as we use this time to do planning for the project as well as getting you prepared for the community you will be volunteering in for the two weeks.
