projects in action button Westminster MBA projects 2011 Kampala, Uganda2 weeks, April 2011 (exact dates TBC)

Introduction:

This will be the second time The Great Generation delivers projects in partnership with Westminster University London. Now apart of the formal Westminster MBA module, students will return to the organisations we worked with in September 2010 to underpin and building on the impactful and challenging the pilot projects.

Project details:

At this stage we anticipate three teams of students working with our Uganda-based Expert Partners Reach Out Mbuya (website), Kamwokya Christian Caring Community (website) and Africa Social Development Health Initiative.

These capacity building projects will address topics such as:-

  • Campaigning for behaviour change,
  • strategic planning, enterprise development and long term sustainability,
  • Marketing planning to engage the local community in promoting HIV Aids prevention education.

Students are asked to fundraise a set amount of money that covers flights, food, local transport and accommodation. Most of the services we use on the project, such as accommodation, food and transport, are sourced from the community you will be working in to help stimulate the local economy.

The fundraising also goes towards the community in two ways. One part helps to set up a microfinance fund in the community, which is used to help local people create livelihoods for themselves. The second part is provided as an infrastructure grant to the community.

Students attend two half-day briefings, which will help them to prepare for their project and start to learn about the community they will be living in for the two weeks.
